SAN RAMON – The owners of Livermore’s popular Lanna Thai Restaurant have opened a fast-casual restaurant in San Ramon’s Marketplace called Four Flavors, and it’s associate publisher Brad Mena-Spaulding’s new favorite lunch spot. You start by picking your base – brown rice, jasmine rice, rice noodles or salad greens – then add one of four proteins. Complete your bowl with two veggies, sauce, and some toppers. Brad’s go-to is chicken with brown rice, garlic kale, trio veggie, pumpkin curry (spicy & delicious!), topped with papaya salad and roasted peanuts.
I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken on greens with red hot corn, kale and peanut sauce topped with papaya and crispy garlic. Yummy and filling. Bowls start at $7.95. No alcohol. Open daily, 11am-8:30pm. 4FlavorsSanRamon.com or 925.380.6751.
SAN RAMON – Whether it’s breakfast, which her out-of-town guests raved about, lunch or dinner, Clementine’s in San Ramon serves a satisfying meal. Publisher Judy Mena loves their waffles, omelets and eggs benedict. She says that Clementine’s is also fantastic for grabbing trays of food for large gatherings when you don’t want to cook. The gumbo filled with chicken, shrimp and sausage, served with dirty rice remains one of her favorites.
I’m partial to their cornmeal battered, deep-fried oysters with rémoulade sauce for dipping. They remind me of a trip I took to New Orleans a few years ago. The seafood melt with tuna and salmon and the reuben po’boy make great standbys. Entrées start at $9.95. Full bar. Open daily, 7am-10pm (9pm on Sunday). ClementinesCA.com or 925.973.0433.
SF Creamery Co.
WALNUT CREEK – The San Francisco Creamery Co. in Walnut Creek is where graphic designer Ginny Smith goes to get her ice cream fix. She loves the old-fashioned ice cream parlor atmosphere and the scoops are oh-so-generous. She always looks forward to trying out their seasonal flavors, but her favorite will forever be anything with chocolate!
Creating your own sundae is a great way to go. Word of warning, even the small sundae is quite big. Burgers, sandwiches, salads and pastas are also on the menu. Sundaes start at $6.59. Open daily, 11:30am-9pm (11pm Friday-Saturday). SanFranciscoCreameryCo.com or 925. 926.0228.
LIVERMORE – Sales associate Melissa Cafiero loves that Simply Fondue in Livermore is a unique fine dining experience combining elegant cocktails (martini’s galore) and the ability to cook your own entrées. She says it’s perfect for a date, time with your friends, or treat yourself to a delicious cheesy appetizer or a decadent chocolate dessert.
The fondue feast is their signature four-course meal. Start with a salad, share a cheese pot – the Italian fontina pot blended with pesto and marina is fabulous – then select from an extensive list of proteins. Finish up with a chocolate pot. The sea salt caramel pot is to die for. The fondue feast is $54 per person. Full bar. Open daily 11am-4pm & 4pm-10pm (11pm Friday & Saturday). SimplyFondueLivermore.com or 925.443.6638.
