Grab a Bite to Go in Solano & Yolo
If the holidays have you rushing around, take time out and grab a bite to go for yourself or your family at one of these great local establishments!
Pietro’s No. 2
VACAVILLE – Family owned and operated since 1962, Pietro’s No. 2 takes pride in serving up traditional family-style Italian and American cuisine. Whether you choose dine in or take out, their motto is “any way you like it” and they’re happy to create dishes per your request.
When I think of takeout, it’s usually something I can grab quickly by visiting a drive-through, but on this particular evening, I was looking for more of a home-cooked meal with the possibility of leftovers. I pulled up the menu for Pietro’s #2 on my smartphone and began my list. Their Margherita Pizza has a thick, bubbly crust – the kind you expect from a well-made pie. I ordered it light on the sauce which was a perfect accent to the fresh basil, tomatoes and mozzarella that topped it off. I also tried their Homemade Gnocchi in a pesto sauce … delicious! I might have to try that one again with one of the other sauces they feature for variety. If you’re looking for something to warm you up, you have to try their Homemade Minestrone Soup — perfect for a cold winter’s eve.
Specials include a Pasta Feast on Sundays – spaghetti, ravioli and lasagna along with a family salad. The Tuesday Special will get you both a medium pizza and large spaghetti with meat sauce, a family salad and garlic bread. Daily lunch specials also grace the menu.
Whether you need a banquet room for a large party, an intimate dining experience or patio dining, Pietro’s No. 2 has it all. Open daily, they’re located at 679 Merchant Street in Vacaville.

Vasquez Deli
VACAVILLE – Located in downtown Vacaville, Vasquez Deli offers an array of traditional and unique spins on beloved Mexican food favorites at an affordable price and a convenient location for both your take out and dine-in needs. The menu focuses on burritos, tacos and classics with other options including salads, enchiladas, tamales and horchata. I had the Fish Taco, which featured fried cod on a corn tortilla with pico de gallo and cabbage. The fish was well seasoned and acted as a great base to the tortilla. Although the taco itself was satisfying, the star of the meal was their homemade fish taco sauce. The bold flavors of cayenne, dill pickle, mayo and lime brought out unique flavors that added a nice kick to an already delectable meal.
Menu items start at $3.29. The deli opens at 10am every day and is located at 620 E. Main St. in Vacaville.

Preserve Market
WINTERS – Not to be confused with their restaurant next door, Preserve Market is a classic deli and market with menu selections including turkey, pork and salami sandwiches, classic burgers, soups, pasta and salads — perfect meals for when you’re on the go. In addition, they feature a variety of pickled vegetables, jams, cheeses and local produce. The Pesto Turkey sandwich I ordered was generously sized and had roasted peppers, pepper jack cheese, onions and mayo with a hint of garlic, which blended perfectly well together in a very satisfying version of a classic sandwich.
Beer and wine are available and if you’re looking to feed a crowd, their sandwich platters have got you covered. Single sandwich prices begin at $6, soups and salads at $4 and combos $9. Preserve Market is open 11am – 6pm daily and is located at 204 Railroad Avenue in Winters.
