Our adventure began in the lively town of Carmel-by-the-Sea, just a short drive from Monterey. We made our first stop at A.W. Shucks Cocktail & Oyster Bar, where we savored the expertly crafted Mai Tai and Pomegranate Margarita cocktails. Although we didn’t dine there, the tantalizing menu featuring specialties like “Oysters Shuckefeller” and Cornmeal Panko-Fried Oysters or Shrimp Po’Boy Sandwiches left us longing for a return visit.

Big Sur Adventures
On the following day, we embarked on an unforgettable adventure on e-bikes rented from Big Sur Adventures, located just south of Cannery Row. Cruising along Monterey’s famous bike path, we explored the picturesque town of Pacific Grove.

Schooners
To recharge after our exhilarating bike ride, we indulged in a sumptuous lunch at Schooners, an upscale waterfront dining establishment located on Cannery Row’s north end. The fresh oysters, local ceviche with succulent calamari and gulf shrimp, and the mouthwatering Blackened Sea Bass Tacos left us in culinary bliss. Schooners is an absolute must-visit for anyone exploring Monterey.

Adventures by the Sea Kayaking
Inspired by the sight of kayakers on the sparkling waters, we seized the opportunity to rent kayaks from Adventures by the Sea. Paddling along the coast, we marveled at the playful otters and seals while birds gracefully soared overhead. The kelp beds revealed a thriving underwater world teeming with sea snails and a myriad of marine life. This serene and up-close encounter with nature was an amazing experience.

17-Mile Drive & Cannery Row
The next day, we sought a classic and stylish means of transportation for our further exploration. At Monterey Touring Vehicles, we chose a stunning red 1965 Ford Mustang with white racing stripes to cruise along the scenic 17-Mile Drive and venture down California’s famed Highway 1. The sights were truly awe-inspiring as we passed landmarks like the Rocky Creek Bridge, the Point Sur Lighthouse, and the hidden gem of Bridge Falls. Driving along this stretch of highway, with the wind in our hair and the breathtaking coastline as our backdrop, was a dream come true. Our journey continued southward along the renowned 17-Mile Drive, a scenic road that hugs the stunning coast. We encountered iconic landmarks such as the Spanish Bay and Pebble Beach golf courses, as well as captivating sites like China Rock, Bird Rock and Point Joe. Along the way, we discovered pristine sandy beaches, with Moss Beach and Granite Beach standing out as personal favorites. Wildlife abounded, with deer, coastal birds and even the possibility of spotting majestic whales in their natural habitat.

The Embassy Suites Monterey
During our trip to Monterey, we had the pleasure of staying at the Embassy Suites Monterey, a hotel that offered exceptional comfort and a wide range of amenities.
