Head to Apple Hill for the Holidays!

Most people think of Apple Hill as an early fall activity to pick out pumpkins, have that first sip of apple cider, and relish everything that is fall. But did you know many of the farms are also open right up until December 24? The fall foliage is usually at its peak during late fall, and who can resist hot apple pie on a cold December day? The bake shops of Apple Hill have many delicious pies and pastries for purchase, which are great for your holiday gathering as they freeze well. Snap a festive family photo for your holiday or Instagram feed at one of the many picturesque stops along the way, and then spend the day looking for the perfect fresh Christmas tree at a tree farm. Some farm locations even allow you to cut the tree yourself (ChooseAndCut.com)!

Have a hard-to-buy-for person on your holiday list? Wineries, gift shops, candy kitchens and more offer unique gifts for everyone on your list. Locally grown produce such as apples, persimmons, squash, nuts, and more are available for purchase and are ideal for creating a beautiful gift basket for gift giving.

Dress warm because it’s not unusual for the Apple Hill region to get a decent amount of snow a couple of times during the winter season. This adds to the ambiance and makes a splendid setting for a snow angel or glass of wine.

If you’re looking for a bite to eat after a long day of adventuring, Placerville is nearby and offers everything from fast food to quaint sit-down experiences. You’ll find many hidden gems along Main Street, so park and take a walk to discover what this lovely little town offers. If you’re around on Sunday, December 8, you can catch the Hangtown Christmas Parade down historic Main Street (previously scheduled for December 1).

Located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada near Placerville, Apple Hill is easily accessible via the 50-E freeway along Carson Road and adjacent areas. Leashed pets are allowed at many of the locations. The best part is admission is free to most of the farms! For more information, visit AppleHill.com.
