VALLEJO — Step into the world of Alfred Uhry’s captivating Tony Awardwinning play, “The Last Night of Ballyhoo,” brought to life by Bay Area Stage! Set against the backdrop of Atlanta, Georgia, as Hitler conquers Poland and “Gone with the Wind” is about to premiere, this play delves into the lives of an upper-class German-Jewish family navigating a rapidly changing world. Meet businessman Adolph Freitag and his family—Boo, Lala, and Sunny—as they prepare for the highly anticipated Ballyhoo, a lavish cotillion ball at their restrictive country club. Joe Farkas, Adolph’s handsome employee, is in denial about the prevalence of prejudice in his religious community. His presence prompts Sunny to examine her Jewish identity, the intra-ethnic bias within her family, and the beliefs she’s been raised with.
