Open Mare Island

Open Mare Island is on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 12 – 2pm with map pick-up at The Quarters Coffee House in Vallejo.

VALLEJO – Stroll or ride through history with Mare Island Historic Park Foundation’s “open house” event on Mare Island! This unique experience offers a captivating look into the storied past of Mare Island. You’ll have the option to enjoy a leisurely self-guided walk or to catch a free SolTrans shuttle around the island.

On your journey, you’ll encounter five landmarks on the island, with docents stationed at each to present the area and answer questions. You’ll be transported through 142 years of Naval Shipyard history as you follow a printed guide, stopping at fascinating landmarks, including St. Peter’s Chapel, Alden Park, the historic core, the old hospital at Touro University, and the Naval Cemetery at the Preserve, each whispering tales of yesteryear.

Start your tour at The Quarters Coffee House, where you can pick-up your map and enjoy a free cup of coffee.
