LAFAYETTE – Lafayette’s renowned Town Hall Theatre Company kicks off fall with The Legend of Georgia McBride, a rollicking, gender-bending and heartfelt celebration of divas and difference. This good-natured comedy follows the exploits of Casey, a flat-broke musician whose young wife is expecting a baby. A fledgling Elvis Presley impersonator barely making a living, he finds a path to prosperity by becoming a lip-syncing drag queen. Casey’s transformation takes place at Cleo’s Lounge, a dilapidated small-time club in the Florida Panhandle that may not be ready for this magical metamorphosis.
This fabulously flamboyant play debuted at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts in 2014 and went on to win or be nominated for many theater awards, including an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play.
